Haida Doroteo’s Homestay

Haida Doroteo is 53 years old and calls Mararison home. She started her homestay in 2016 and made improvements to it into 2017. She set up her business to have an alternative source income and provide for her family. She said that life has been a little bit harder on the island without tourists because there is very little income. The residents of the island rely on fishing for their income, but she said this doesn’t provide as much as tourism does. However, she did mention that the presence of electricity and solar power have made things more comfortable for them on the island because they can properly store food and they can keep cool at all times of the day. She recommends swimming, hiking, snorkeling, and boating while on the island.
